Biography

Ariyo Shahry a native of Tehran, Iran, began his musical studies on the French horn with Javid Madjlessi, former principal of the Tehran Symphonic Orchestra. After receiving his diploma from the Tehran Music Conservatory, he joined the Tehran Symphony Orchestra in 2002 as well as performed with Tehran Philharmonic Orchestra and Tehran Youth Symphonic Orchestra. Mr. Shahry is also an active composer and arranger. He studied composition with Dr. Keith Kramer and Benny Russell at the Harford Community College (Maryland), where he received an Associate degree of performing arts in 2008. In addition, Mr. Shahry has received the Fajr Music Festival Award and was elected a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. He has been incorporating music into a variety of settings with a vast spectrum of acoustic and electronic musical styles. A member of the Baltimore Composers Forum, he has worked with some of the finest musicians in the area, including Dr.Joseph Satava, The Capitol Hill Chamber Players and the harp–saxophone duo “Pictures on Silence”. Mr. Shahry is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studies composition with Michael Hersch and horn with Philip Munds.

He is currently employed by Harford Community College as a Music Assistant.
